Iconic 'Guitar Hero' video game gets the ax
Ouch.. Blizzard takes a hit today in the aftermarket after earning release with the stock price. The company still makes a ton of money because of its online business. The stock price of Blizzard is down almost down 10% because of the financial earning news.
I think that once the stock is down 10%, by looking at yearly stock chart, it is at the level which makes it a buy. I am going to put some money in the ATVI with my retirement account which is not a part of this trading blog.
Anyways, the point of this post is to say OMG they are cutting loose the guitar hero. We all know that it was coming, you can only make so much money with the music genre. I mean look back at the old DDR series and DJ games, all the music games eventually get AXed from the parent company because they are simply not money makers aside from the one hit wonder.
I actually think that Blizzard is better off by axing the guitar hero unit. They should concentrate more of their investment with online games. Because I believe that is where the future money will be in.
i think only the future will tell.
ReplyDeleteWell I thought they were actually pretty cool skill testing games, and pretty innovative at the time.
ReplyDeleteFollowing you up.

Since when does Blizz make Guitar Hero? I thought it was Activision.

There isn't much room for growth in the Guitar Hero series, so I'm definitely not surprised, even before the mediocre sales of the DJ Hero series.
ReplyDeleteI've always wanted to buy stocks in blizzard, maybe nows the time
ReplyDeletedance dance revolution is still going strong in the arcades, same with other bemani games (in japan, at least). beatmania home versions are dead though, which makes me really really sad. pop'n music home versions died a long time ago, too. so fun.
ReplyDeletei thin the guitar hero series got too complicated after 3.
Only time will tell. let's hope
ReplyDeleteYeah I heard about this, sucks I really liked the games
ReplyDeleteWho isn't sick of that game yet
ReplyDeletei havent liked guitar hero since GH3
ReplyDeleteNo more GH :'(
ReplyDeleteI can't help but question a little how much longer blizzard will be such a dominating force in the MMO world. Lots of players are getting burned out, and this has lead to consistent growth in players for other MMO's. Eve Online is over 250k subscribers, releasing regular expansions, and various other things. SWTOR is on the way.... I think WoW will gradually shrink and we'll see a more equal player distribution between MMO's.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed guitar hero, but I think if they used a different model it may have been more successful in the long term. Noone wants to spend like $100 on a new game thats exactly the same as the old one but with new songs. If they released song packs for like $20 people might be happier to keep buying them.
ReplyDeleteR.I.P. GH, though it doesn't come as a total surprise. I was a big fan of the GH franchise(my favorites we're 3,WT and Metallica) yet I lost the love and people got tired, I remember when 10-15 people would come by my home(I have the entire instrument set) and play for hours but now.....nobody cares.
ReplyDeleteO.O is not actvision on Guitar Hero?!
ReplyDeletei think its a good idea, the game got pretty repetitive and there really wasnt much new to bring to the table besides songs and changing the fingerings. couldve been a costly mistake to go through with.
